    Brother DCP-9045CDN - Print Unable 32 error

[reposting due to type in the error code]

    Hi everybody !

I have a Brother DCP-9045CDN machine that displays the "print unable 32" error.
I followed the manual and searched for jams - all paths seem clear.

I did some reading here on the forum, searched the web, read the service manual and I have a feeling
that this is the "solenoid sticking" issue that was discussed here.

In order to verify that this is indeed the issue, I used the service menu on the printer in order to get
a readout of the sensors. Now here is my question:
The service manual states that error 32 is a problem with the density sensor shutter.
However, the manual does not refer to such a sensor!

I am a newbie, and maybe this is a stupid question, but can the "density sensor" refer to the registration-mark sensor(s) ?

It's just that the list of sensors do not contain any reference to a density sensor!

Any hint or advice will be welcome...

    Thanks in advance,

    - Barak

I did check the harnesses (that looked fine), and then got to the shutter, which indeed was stuck.
I applied the "tape fix" (put a piece of scotch tape on the sticking foam) and the shutter stopped sticking.

I reconnected everything and the machine passed the power-up sequence without a fault.
When I tried to print, I got 2 "paper jam" errors (though a page was not pulled at all), and then the "Print Unable 32"
returned. I checked the shutter again, but it seems to be ok (it's not sticking anymore).

I can't try replacing the PCBs, since I'm not a technician, just a hobbyist, so I don't have access to parts.
Just buying PCBs in order to test them is not feasible...

      Thanks,

      - Barak

Just wanted to update that problem is resolved now, so I'm posting the solution for future use by others...

        Apparently, there were 2 problems:
        1. The sensor's shutter was getting stuck - this was fixed with a scotch tape over the "foamy" part on the solenoid housing.
        2. Print Unable 32 returned quite immediately. It ended up as a full/faulty waste toner container.

To be honest - I'm a bit disappointed, since there are special error codes (and sensors) designated for the waste toner container.
But anyway - it's working now.

        Thanks for the help!

        - Barak
