[Misc] Brother Intellifax 4000 - Add toner light coming on fast

We have a Brother Intellifax 4000 (this is an older machine) which started flashing the "Change Toner" light last month. We changed the toner and the light went off. We normally use the TN430 cartridge, 3000 page yield.

The "Change Toner" light came on again today, and there is no way we have gotten 3000 pages of faxes in a month.

The drum is just over 2 years old. We have tried cleaning the drum per the manual, and were wondering if this is something that we can try to troubleshoot more on our own, or if we are better of taking it in for service or if we are better off buying the new Intellifax 4000e.

Just looking at what it would cost to have a repair person come on site or take it in somewhere, we may be better off just replacing the machine.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That "3000 pages" figure is based on a 5% fill rate. To you, that's a typed letter or a solid black area about the size of a postage stamp. If you knew the actual number of pages, and you knew the average fill rate we'd have something to discuss. For example if your count was 600 pages and you had an average fill rate of 25%, you consumed the whole cartridge.

In most of these cases, it turns out that the toner has been consumed. Just install a new one. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

A clarification of the issue, as I misunderstood what happened.

The toner was changed first about a month ago. Then the light came on earlier this week or late last week and they changed the toner again. Then the light came on again just a few days later.

I stopped by to look at the machine myself and took out the drum/toner unit and didn't see any damage or exess toner in the body of the machine. I took a paper towel and gently wiped inside the body of the machine and took the toner out of the drum unit and wiped out just the black plastic area, not touching the green drum.

I also put the drum unit on the towel and "cleaned" the corona. I did not notice any major specks of toner on the towel after I was done.

It seemed to be working so far today, so we will see if it happens again. Any additional suggestions are appreciated.

        Thanks!
