I just took over service on some of these Brother machines. They are all working fine and I have not serviced Brothers before. When I printed the status page on one of them it showed that the Laser, Fuser and PF Kit 1 were all at 0%. I have looked in the user manual and see that these are PM replacement items listed for 100k. The machine currently has 108k on it and has no issues at all. I see that there are secondary status lights for the laser and fuser unit when they have a hard failure. My question is, will these continue to run even though they are at 0% since they are not like a toner or drum that give a low warning and then stops completely. Or will these soon stop working since they are 8k over thier recommended replacement accroding to the manual. I just dont want to order a laser and fuser that may cost almost as much as getting a new printer when this machine is working just fine. I also dont want the machine to just go down on the customer because I didnt replace these. Any experience on how the counters work for these items would be appreciated. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks for the info. I have the service manual for this machine but it didn't state any of that so that is why I asked.
Gift (or anyone else) :
thank you for the info on that. We have left it alone and it has ran fine until recently. We had to replace the fuser and PF kit. do you know how to reset those counters? It is not in the service manual at all how to reset those counters on a 5250. It does show how to get into the hidden menus on a 5270 to reset all the pm counters but I cannot find how to reset them on the 5250. I called Brother and they were no help.Comment

1) check that the front cover is open
2) turn on power switch while the go button is held
3) after all leds on the machine are lit only the status led goes out
4) press go button for a while, make sure that the paper led lights up.
