Mfc-9700 machine error 71

Plug machine in starts warmup then asks to open cover. open covers and asks to close cover. Close cover and says machine error 71. Tried to enter maintenance mode to perform parameter initialization but machine won't allow full sequence menu,*,2,8,6,4. error 71 refers to polygon motor.
Any help regarding this error code is very much appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy
