Color LaserJet 4700 colors misaligned

Got a call for misaligned colors. Knowing they use remaned carts, I assumed bad carts. Well, I can be satisfied it isn't the carts. I took the problem carts (magenta, yellow & cyan) to another 4700 and everything is aligned properly. The problem stayed with the printer. It almost looks like the laser shutters are just not open enough. If anyone has seen this or has any ideas, I'd love to hear about it. The only option I have left is to open it all up and check the laser/scanners for those colors.

You're not just looking at the cartridges and how they interact with the machine. You're looking at a love triangle between the machine, the transfer belt, and the cartridges. An OEM transfer belt with OEM cartridges should solve your problem. Sometimes a reman belt with reman cartridges will work... sometimes not. The most often failed is when one is OEM and the other is reman. But also, an old belt that needs to be replaced will cause misaligned colors. So start with the belt--an OEM one. Then replace the cartridges with OEM.

have you tried cold reset and full calibration? or pressing the engine test switch?

That's right... I forgot about that. Sometimes a cold reset, or a NVRAM dump will fix alignment problems.

Thanks angel, but in reality, unless it comes to you GOTTA use genuine cartridges (which I 110% wish people would), I gotta troubleshoot with what they use (unless proved otherwise). Considering the remaned carts tested fine in another printer. I'll go back and try a belt swap & cold reset and see what happens.

Had same problem earlier this year and cartridges were not to blame.

Laser re alignment procedure is as follows

Let machine warm up and indicate ready
Open upper fuser cover
Press and hold engine test button on rear for 3 seconds
Close upper fuser cover
Immediately turn power switch off & back on again

This puts the lasers back to factory setting and then let the machine calibrate itself and all is normally o.k.

For what it's worth, my take on this is that by using non original cartridges all the lasers self adjust to compensate for them.
Eventually when they have all moved away from factory settings and a new cartridge wants to move further to rectify alignment, it becomes impossible to move any further.
The factory reset then gives it the opportunity to start the process again from scratch thus making the alignment possible again

Tried the laser/scanner factory reset procedure. No change, so I took the fuser & ETB from another 4700 in the building. Swapped the fuser. No change. Swapped the ETB. BINGO!

Run full calibration about 3 to 4 times to see if they realign, if not replace the toner cartridges.
