    [Misc] HP 4300 ghosting problem

    Hello guys. I have a begginer question : i refilled a hp 39A cartridge and it does ghosting on print with a gray background. The wiper blade seems ok.The curious thing is that if the tray 2 is set to custom paper and and the machine prints 1/2 speed, it prints fine. If i set tray 2 to a4 and prints full speed, ghosting appears. Bad pcr maybe? I just cannont explain how from a tray prints fine and from another tray does the things mentioned above

      If you've narrowed it down to a single toner cartridge, aren't you done diagnosing?

      I suppose you might have a charge memory issue with the drum, or a generic toner issue, but I doubt that the charge roller would be the cause. The key is that the engine runs at half speed with the heavy media setting, giving is longer for the drum to discharge. =^..^=
      If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              Blackcat is right. There's no reason no keep thinking once you've got it down to the toner ctg.

              But in answer to your question, the ghosting isn't happening in the cartridge, it's happening in the fuser. The generic toner isn't getting enough time and/or heat to fuse, so it repeats when the machine is running faster. If you're using an OEM ctg, and it still does it, then you can bet on it being a bad fuser.

                  You are correct. ghosting can occur two places as mentioned. but a simple half-stop test could narrow it down to either the fuser or cartridge unit.
