[Electrical] M2727nf turno off only when cartridge is in

    Hi all,
here lies an HP M2727nf with a strange issue.
The machine seems to die ONLY when a toner cartridge is inserted in. If i leva the toner out of the machine the power is solid on with no issues.
Tried various cartridges with the same issue.
Maybe is a ECU (power board) failing instead of the formatter?
Not tried to swap board because i have to buy new board, so before i go on and buy the wrong (funcional) board i'm here to ask.
    Thanks a lot
    Luigi.

I had something similar happen with a Samsung once, turned out to be a bad print cartridge. D'oh!
But you've probably already tried a new OEM toner cartridge, right?

yes, but also tried the "problematic" cartridge in te P2015 and it's fine.
Update: turned on the printer yesterday, leave it on all night, is on and ready again (well, not ready, still says "insert toner cartridge") but no other issues.

I would guess at the formatter. But on those, an oven bake will often fix the problem. I usually bake the formatter board @ 350 for 8 minutes.

... So baking the formatter really does work. I've questioned the baking process would work as per the youtube video.

Glad to see a Tech has actually tried it, an it successfully works....

I though about doing the same with some other brand PDL boards.

I've baked, probably 10 P2015 boards. All worked great afterwards.

I recently brought home and baked a P4015. I'm waiting for an opportunity to try it in a machine that already needs a formatter. But yeah, I've baked a dozen P2015's.

I've heard of it working in other completely unrelated machines... like a Nintendo.

Oh... make sure to remove any plastic, like the network card slot holder.

Re : Formatter PCB problem calling for Toner.
What was your fault conclusion with regards to baking the PC board ?

What do you feel is causing the dynamic fault in the formatter board ?

Bad earthing points ? Static charge build up ? Transients in the mains power ?

I could understand static charge build up in IC TTL or CMOS logic gates, and therefor the static dissipates out of the IC gate junctions when heated in the oven...

                I've no idea, thoughts .....

I don't know anything about all that. I've heard the solder joints somehow lose their connection. Heating it up "resolders" it. I just know that sometimes if you have a board problem, baking it works.

When you don't have a professional re-flow setup, an oven works just as good (cheaper too).
