    Re: error 99.09.67

To upgrade or recopy the firmware:

Format a USB stick as FAT32
Copy the .BDL file to the stick
Insert the stick in the front USB slot
Use the pre-boot menu to install or recopy the firmware

You may have a bad SSD or HDD if your getting that error.

Are you sure you formatted FAT32?

I've had that happen in Lexmark printers. If I used another stick, it was fine. Try another stick.

Did you look at the service manual for the methods of upgrading the firmware and why you are getting the usb error message. here is the first method.

USB storage device (Preboot menu)1. Copy the xxxxxxx.bdl file to a portable USB flash memory storage device (thumb drive).
              2. Turn the product on.
              3. Press the Stop button when the Ready, Data and Attention LEDs illuminate solid.
              4. Press the Down arrow button to highlight Administrator, and then press the OK button.
              5. Press the Down arrow button to highlight Download, and then press the OK button.
              6. Insert the portable USB storage device with the xxxxxxx.bdl file on it.
NOTE: If the error message No USB Thumbdrive Files Found appears on the control-panel
display, you might need to connect the storage device to the external USB connection on the
formatter or try using a different portable storage device.
              7. Press the Down arrow button to highlight USB Thumb Drive, and then press the OK button.
              8. Press the Down arrow button to highlight thexxxxxxx.bdl file, and then press the OK button.
NOTE: The upgrade process can take up to 10 minutes to complete.
TIP: If there is more than one xxxxxxx.bdl file on the storage device, make sure that you
select the correct file for this product.
              9. When the message Complete appears on the control-panel display, press the back arrow
              button 3 times.
              10. When the message Continue appears on the control-panel display, press the OK button. The
              product will initialize.
              11. When the upgrade process is complete, print a configuration page and verify that the upgrade
              firmware version was installed.

Also, it is important to study the "read me" file that should be offered with the firmware. At least the last part of the "read me" file anyway, where the different methods of upgrading the firmware are explained.

Wonder why, lot of those IT guys still want the HP crap. Hp has made some nice machines in the past, but their support for their products is the worst in the industry and they make you spend unnecessary money to buy parts. Lots of their error codes are meaningless and has the techs scratching even after years of working on them. Some of their parts can be really expensive. They continue to produce machines with known problems and have not updated the defective parts on later productions. swing gear comes to mind.

They have updated the swing gear. Look at the M600 compared to the 4200.

When it comes to desktop printers, there's not much alternative. Brothers are crap, Samsung is only a little better, Lexmark are a good alternative but their ctgs are expensive.

What i was referring to as to the swing gear assy is the fact that they knew about the problem, but they continue to put those same inferior gears on the machines they produced in subsequent years. This went on for years. They did not modify the gear material and continued to sell the part with no improvement. In fact third party supplier, made metal gears and did their own improvements. HP sells more mainboards that any other. every second problem with an HP i hear the guys run to replace the formatter.
There are alternatives. Kyocera makes excellent desktop printers, so do lexmark and i heard of dell making some decent printers. Cost, Hp ctgs are not cheap and may be the most expensive of all.
In the early days, Hp machines worked well with applications and had less hicups than others and the IT guys demanded them. Others have caught up.

Doubtful it's the formatter, just the SSD or HDD from my experience with this error. Most users just opt for the standard SSD (8GB) rather than the HDD. Problem is, these SSD's are hard to get. The last one I ordered from HP took a month and a half to get! I'm not sure what the problem is with getting them. They are just a small square board with a chip on it with a SATA type connector (Data & Power), manufactured by SanDisk if I remember.

That's good to know... I often tell customers both because I don't want to come back twice with different expensive parts.
