    HP DESIGNJET 1050C

Trying to figure out what Monitor 19 means in the printhead status menu? Does it mean the printheads are bad?

    Thanks Hoosierdaddy

It means to 'monitor' the output; look for defects in the print quality related to that particular head(s). If you see problems then it's time to replace that head.

You can look at the information in the INK menu about the printheads. If they're extremely old or have more than 1000ml of ink through them, then I'd say you got your money's worth out of them and they should be replaced. (Good luck finding them though. As far as I know they are discontinued. Check ebay.)

You can also run a print quality test that will show you what nozzles are out. In the printer menu, go to test prints, and select print quality. Section 1 of the print shows each head and the nozzle health. Missing lines indicate bad nozzles.

It's also a good idea to clean the drop detect sensor. It's sandwhiched between the service station and the platen on the right side. Turn the printer off, pull the tray with the cleaners all the way forward, and pull the carriage out so you can get at it. It's a small rectangular box with a slot in the top. Use a damp paper towel to clean off the top and down inside it a bit. If it's very dirty it will erroneously think the printheads have bad nozzles.
