    HP M451 Tray 2 jam

I have one of these that will print fine from tray 2. As soon as you put any paper in the bypass tray it kicks a tray 2 jam doesn't try to feed from bypass or tray 2. I have tried a nvram reset and factory default reset. I went out with the technician that was working on the problem today and the customer was able to print from the bypass from tray 2 everything seemed to be working and then tray 2 jam came up and its back to doing that whenever paper is in the bypass. I've not seen anything like this before anyone have any suggestions?

I remember experiencing this exact issue. If I remember right, I think the sep pad for the bypass tray wasn't installed correctly or wasn't seated all the way?

I think there's a thread on something like this somewhere in this forum. But it might be a slightly different model number.

Have seen a few of these little machines do that, from the HP 2025's, 2320's, 451's, never have found a solution, many ideas, no solutions, yet.

If you turn the machine on it's side you'll see a black plastic guide for tray 3 (accessory).
That guide is out of position and hitting the sensor had this a few times.

Have any parts been replaced on this machine recently ?
Does the printer attempt to pick up paper (do the motors kick on and the pickup roller spins), or does this error appear when you just put paper into the MP tray ?

Remove the paper cassette and look at the flag assembly at the right rear corner of the tray. Is it damaged, missing or not moving properly ?

With the tray removed, look into the tray cavity in the printer. At the right rear corner inside the printer there is a photosensor where that flag at the rear of the tray goes. Is that photosensor connected and sitting properly ? Ensure it is not loose or damaged.

                Thanks,
                Will
