I am new to this model any ideas as to what the problem is, error 2.1.10. The manual says it maybe the trailing cable.
Any other ideas will be a great help.
Thanks
Try it with the printheads removed. Run the service test on the carriage assembly and see what it comes up with. Also run the test on the scan axis (the manual says 'Encoder seems wrong' for this error; the scan axis encoder is built into the carriage PCA.. it's not replaceable like on other models. If it's bad, you need a new carriage PCA. Your only hope there might be ebay. Probably easier to find the entire carriage assembly.)
Does the printer have a lot of use? Remove the trailing cable and inspect it. I've seen a couple that were worn through where it rubs up underneath the top guide.
Looking at others with this error their solution was to replace the carriage assembly, but I would try the least expensive part (trailing cable) first.

PS. HP still sells the carriage assembly with the trailing cable, for the 24" models.
And clean the encoder strip.. just use a damp lint-free cloth or coffee filter; pinch the encoder strip and move along it slowly from end to end. Do not use alcohol or any kind of solvent.
Do you get the error after the carriage moves from end to end on startup?
