    HP 4250n Network Config Help

Our 4250n lost it's network connection and now we can't find it. I printed configuration page and the IPv4 which we use comes up 0.0.0.0 for all the addresses and subnet. When you look at the config on through the machine it gives you the right config setup. We don't use DHCP and every machine has a specific IP. I then went and printed a Jetdirect page and got the Status I/O Card Not Ready LAN ERROR- LOSS OF CARRIER. I've tried new cables to no avail. Is the Jetdirect bad and need to be replaced? Or is it an issue with the Formatter board?

Re: HP 4250n Network Config Help

IIRC the NIC is built into the formatter, but I think it has option ports and you can use a Jetdirect 620N. If the option port is live, it's much cheaper than a formatter. The last time I tried this both option ports were dead and I still needed the formatter. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I would play around a little bit. Have you tried to crossover a laptop and try to talk to it that way?

      Maybe a cold reset

        did you swap Cat5 cable?
        make sure plugged in good?
what lights are showing on NIC?
do you run server? or workgroup?
the driver (if not missing) should have IP addy.. has to be static since no DHCP.

was there a Server or WS update?

BC and JR2 have good suggestions..

have you tried using ARP to give it a address via its MAC address?

          arp -s 157.55.85.212 00-00-00-00-00-00

00...00 being the mac address and 157.55.85.212 being the IP your own PC (and only your own PC) would communicate with.

this will hopefully prove NIC is good and if it works you can get onto admin page and make a static entry. Been so long since i worked on this model cant recall if you can set the IP at the printer

You can set the IP from the control panel. It is under the JetDirect / EIO menu. Kinda annoying, as you have to use only up- and down-arrow keys to type in the IP.

Had a 4350 doing that, not long ago. Do config print out and thats what we got. 000.000.000, just zeros, 2 pages only, HP 4250's and 4350's .when working normal will print out 3 pages from config print out. Did cold reset, reloaded firmware, nothing... replaced formatter, didnt change anything. Replaced it with a working one. Sold that one to customer that was going to use with usb cable only, no network. Have had a couple of them do that, now we know. Also, cannot get to the embedded area to imput IP address and so forth. So, pretty much done. Find a way around it, please post.

We decided to order the whole Formatter with Network embedded. Hopefully that will solve it. I'll post back after we replace and install the new one. Thanks for all the help.

I did try a crossover with my laptop. It could never establish a true connection. It would go in and out constantly. That's why we decided to order a new formatter.
