HP P4015 connectivity issues

Hello i have an Hp 4015 in that the network connection light does not turn on when the ethernet cable is connected. I have setup an ip address but there is no connectivity. I changed the formatter board with a new one and the same problem exists. I tried the formatter board on another machine and the other machine works fine. Is there some other board that controls this function ?. From all what is said both formatter boards are working fine.
Any thoughts.

need more info on the network...

did you try another cat5 cable?

Or another device, such as a different printer, or your notebook?

Having an IP address set should have no bearing on the link light, as the physical connection happens at a lower level than the address.

Or move the printer to another location and plug it up and see if it connects there. Could be a bad cable, could be a bad connection at the wiring closet, bad port on the switch.

Basic trouble shooting before replacing boards.

Update the printer firmware.

Did you connect a laptop direct to this printer via a LAN cable as test?

yeah I forgot about hat one...
OP provided very little info.

I always start with the simple stuff.. cable .. roller for jams etc.

Since I always had my laptop with me I would usually move the network cable from the printer, etc, and connect it to my laptop. If no link light I would try a known good CAT5 or CAT6 cable. If still no link, the problem was at the wall jack or beyond.

Let’s not make this another one of those threads that goes on for pages and pages of suggestions and comments without hearing back from the OP.

That’s happened far too many times already.

I think we’ve made enough suggestions to get him started.

Yeah very true, too many times we give advice & never hear back as most likely issue was resolved by our suggestions.

Update.... the ethernet cable is working fine...i connected my laptop direct to it still no link light. I have placed the formatter board on another machine and it works fine.

I worked on a few of these printers when they first came out. What's that...5 or 6 years ago? I didn't like them then. But I digress. Could be a main PWB problem or a loose/broken cable. I wouldn't waste much money on it as you can get a used one pretty cheap.

Has this printer been fixed yet? Can you run an engine test page with no issue? Look at the left side cover near the fan vents and you'll see a hole just big enough to insert a pen and hit a switch. This should give you an engine test page print out which is just a page covered with vertical lines. If it does this OK then you have proven that the engine board/ dc controller is working. You can now suspect a problem with where the formatter cage mates with the printer. The only other board in that printer that matters is the power supply which could have a problem, but highly unlikely. Also, if you can't replace this 17 year old printer (first release 2003) I would definitely make sure the firmware is current. Best of luck.
