Can portable inkjet printers be stored at any angle?

When my HP Color LaserJet failed about a month ago, I bought an inkjet printer to keep my business going and to have as a backup next time I have an issue with the LaserJet.

I decided to get the HP OfficeJet 200 which is a portable inkjet as I don't have space for another full size printer. It goes up to 20ppm and is the best print quality inkjet I ever had, they got the drop size down to 3 picoliters (my last inkjet was 6 pl) so it makes a great photo printer (it does borderless up to 5x7) if ever I want photo quality prints.

Now that I won't be using it regularly with my LaserJet fixed, I was wondering if I can store it at any angle like on its sides or back? Can the ink end up leaking out of the cartridges at certain angles? I believe it's held in sponges, it uses 2 cartridges that have the printheads on them but can they be left sideways for months?

It's so compact I can fit it in the space between my LaserJet and the back wall as long as it being on its side or back isn't a problem.

    Thanks

If you are talking about storing the brand new unopened printer then yes you can store it how you like as most likely the ink cartridges have not been opened or installed & still sealed?

But if you want to store your opened/used printer I would keep this level.

If would also be a good idea to use it once a week or at least turn it & to let it run a quick cleaning cycle. InkJets are notorious for clogging printHeads.

I have used it and finished the included color cartridge in 3 days and the black cartridge in maybe a week and replaced both (it comes with 30% filled cartridges of course).

I know inkjet printheads eventually fail, that's why I wanted a model with the printheads on the cartridges so I get brand new ones with every cartridge change. I would never buy an inkjet printer without user replaceable printheads because it's just a matter of time before they fail.

I was really hoping I could store it sideways, I hadn't considered this when buying it. I'll see if the manual says anything about it.

When you shut down the printer correctly the ink cartridges are 'capped' to prevent the ink drying out & leaking.

However I would store the printer level to be safe.

          Manual confirms this:

If you are transporting the printer, do the following to prevent ink leaking from the printer or other damage from occurring to the printer:
Make sure you turn off the printer by pressing (the Power button). Wait until all sounds of internal motion stop before unplugging the printer.
The printer must be transported sitting flat; it should not be placed on its side, back, front, or top.

Well it's not going behind my LaserJet after all, it would have been completely out of the way. I'll figure something else out.
