HP Color Laserjet Enterprise CM4540 MFP - Error Code 49.38.07

I have the above error code which I understand relates to firmware. I've followed instructions from other posts, which suggests removing the network cable & then re-powering the machine when the machine should come to ready, then clear the print jobs & upgrade firmware. The problem I have, is that whatever I do, I can't clear the error code. If it's relative, on powering up, the machine goes through its self diagnostic processes & fails between numbers 5/6 when checking hardware, which is right at the end of the process

have you removed all the extra cables that are plugged into the machine? then unplug the power and release residual power. it is not plugged into a battery backup or surge protector? if so, remove the power cord and plug directly into the wall. maybe this will help.

There's no extra cables, just the network cable & I have removed the mains cable direct from the wall socket too.

Try the pre boot menu to update firmware using a USB. Turn on the machine and press the HP logo when it says 1/8. Should bring up the menu. Scroll to the appropriate entry. If it still is making problems, it may need formatter or hard drive.

Thanks tmw, I did find this procedure prior to your post & can confirm this was the way into admin menu which then allowed me to update the firmware. This did overcome the original problem. Thanks once again
