HP Pagewide Pro 772MFP Not Recognizing Compatible Ink

I have a customer that says they've been using the same compatible ink for their HP Printer for a while with no issues. Now the printer only accepts OEM (at 4x the price). I know HP is playing their games with firmware that we've been dealing with on laser printers and I'm guessing this is the same. I don't see a cartridge policy i can shut off on this model. My question is will a firmware update change this back. i don't have a link to a previous firmware if that's the only way as well.

The firmware was auto updated. They change things so compatible chips wont work. I don't believe you can rollback the firmware.
