Can not get DJ500 to prime printheads. All air is purged from supply lines.
Can not get DJ500 to prime printheads. All air is purged from supply lines.
For some reason I am unable to get the printheads to prime. I have primed the head (black) with ink and it will work fine till it uses up all the ink in the printhead. Anyone seen this problem before?
Re: Can not get DJ500 to prime printheads. All air is purged from supply lines.
I've never heard of priming the printheads on a 500. The idea is they come pre-filled with ink, and are fed ink as you print, eliminating the need to 'prime' them.
If your printheads are starved for ink, you have a tube assembly or ISS problem. Check and make sure the bongo pumps are moving up and down when the ISS initializes. They should be pushing the rubber bit in the bottom of the ink cartridge, pumping air into the cartridge so it compresses the bag of ink, and forcing the ink into the tubes. If the ISS is broken, if the four pumps are not rising when the motor runs, the ISS needs to be replaced.
Remove the ink cartridges, power on the printer, and press a finger gently against one of the pumps. When the ISS initializes, it will move the pumps up and down. If one or more of them do not move, the ISS needs to be replaced. If they all move, then either you have air in the tubes, or kinked tubes, or defective ink cartridges. With what you've gone through, anything's possible. Also make sure the ISS end of the tube assembly is seated correctly.
This pic is from a T/Z series but the concept is the same.

Once the printheads run dry of ink, they're pretty much trash. I know of no way to refill them by normal means.

Yep I trashed another printhead. The ISS is working correctly the push rods are moving upward just fine. I did find another bad cartridge and it seems to be printing just fine now. So many variables that can contribute to the problem. I guess when the ink runs out it just burns up the head. Makes sense that is the cause. Thanks for responding and your input Kiran.
