print the document in black and white even if one of the color cartridges is empty

    Good morning,
as we all know hp printers, when at least one of the cartridges is empty, it is not possible to print.
    Is this policy legal?
I personally have run out of yellow but would like to print a document in black and white.
I don't want to buy the yellow cartridge because honestly I never use it.
the question is: is there a way, only if legal, to print the document in black and white even if one of the color cartridges is empty?

does the doc have one pixel in color or composite color for grey scale?

    are you using OEM toners?

Thanks for the reply. This is a PDF document with no images, just text. The font color is black. The cartridges are the original ones included with the printer. The printer model is: hp color laser mfp 179fnw

Open the PDF file in WORD, highlight the text then right click the text and selects Fonts. Under font color, choose more colors at the bottom. Click the custom tab and it will display the breakdown of the colors. If the values are all zeros like in the example below, the text is pure black.

A thousand thanks! Are you telling me that if I convert the documents I need to print to pure black, I'll be able to print even if I'm out of color toner?

If you never use yellow, why is it empty?

Depending on the type of printer all cartridges are used for automatic adjustment.
            • For Inkjet printers it will fail automatic nozzle testing
            • For lased it won't be able to execute auto image density control

Is auto image density control necessary? If the printer does not do it due to lack of toner, could there be a malfunction?

It is dome a minimum of once each day of operation. It is controlled by the firmware. Custom firmware to eliminate it will most likely cost you a few thousand dollars up front and could take a few weeks to write. A yellow cartridge is considerably less.

if I decide to modify the firmware (I will never do it) what will be the damage I will encounter?
