I've told all my HP customers NOT to update the firmware or they will be forced to use genuine toners which costs over $200 for each toner! $800+ for a set of toners is 2x's what the printer cost! Aftermarket toners are around $50 each, big difference.
Thought you could get the older firmware on HP website but knowing them they don't want you to be able to use aftermarket and took down the older firmware.
I could also use an older version F/W that will allow aftermarket toners to be used. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before one of my customers calls and says they can't use the aftermarket toners I sold them. Automatic firmware updates is going to be a problem.
Many of my customers are really mad at HP for doing this and said they will never buy HP again. I will steer them to buy Canon small models instead which use same HP engine. People don't know but most, if not all HP engines & toners are made by Canon.
I tried rolling back firmware on this model. No matter what I tried, it wouldn't let me roll it back. The screen kept telling me it had the newest firmware and that was the end of the story.
