HP4000 black bands

I hav an HP 4000 with intermittant 3/4\" black bands (looks like a drum ground problem on an analog copier). Customer replaced the drum unit and that didn\'t fix it. Any hints? the printer has about 120k on it and it sometimes happens once or twice on a 50 page run.

if they are horizontal lines/bands my service manual points to defective laser scanner assy. or engine controller board. first action they recommend is to reseat your connectors on the laser scanner and engine controller board. next action is to replace the laser scanner assy. followed by the engine controller board if necessary.
