    H/P 4100 mfp and no faxing issue...help!!

A customer of mine has a 4100 mfp...the other day they had a EIO 1 disc error...so we changed the hard drive.....it will act as a printer and copier but will not fax....the Fax module on the side of the machine has the "red" error lite on....and it does not display faxing as a option on the 4100's display...the last 3 errors on the config page are: 68 1F20, 68 3D04 and 81 88D4...so my main concern is to get the fax portion working asap......thanks!!!

I think prntrfxr will confirm this. I had a similar issue on a HP LJ4345 recently that turned out to be the formatter PWB. The fax option plugs directly into the formatter, and if it is not recognizing it, there are not any other options. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

The more I read into it ...things point to the formatter board...so from what I understand parts of a formatter board can be functional and other areas not.....so a jet direct card will work but the Fax module which plugs to the par port on the formatter board will not.... so should I also get another firmware module with the board?

4100 series printers have a weakness with the formatters. We sell more of them for the 4100 that any other part except the trays and the fusers. If the firmware version is old, I would replace it. This has been a 4100mfp kind of day. I've had 2 other tech support calls and then this. I guess things run in 3's.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Try TSA World they've done right by me.
            TSA World - Product Catalog

And yes, you can lose a single function, and the rest of the machine still work. That's the rule, not the exception. =^..^=
