designjet 5500 'check printhead path (1)'

I was asked to replace the carriage belt on an Designjet 5500 and subsequently got a 'Trailing Cable' error on power up; replaced the trailing Cable the next day, but now after about 10% initialization 'check printhead path (1)' is displayed; just at the 10% mark, the cleaning station AND the carriage assembly makes a back and forth movement, stop and error message is displayed; I have cleaned the encoder strip and lubricated the rails as well as loosened the tension on the belt; the carriage assembly moves very freely along its path, although there is resistance once the error message is displayed. (I assume this is normal as the Scan Axis motor is probably in engaged at this point).

    Any ideas on a fix?

    Thank you.

The tension screw needs to be backed out all the way, you want max tension on the belt, also check the scan motor pulley for pieces of the old belt, it needs to be clean.

Yeah, what he said. I just did a belt on a 5500 and had to go back in and pick rubber out of the pulley. Any little bump in travel and it stops.
