H/P LJ M2727 NF scanner failure number 5

I just replaced the scanner assembly about 3wks ago for this same error (5)...is there possibly any other cause or is it just the weak poor quality scanner failing again? Customer is a bit bent needless to say....paid us close to $400. p and l

    thanks all!

you will more than likely have to replace the formatter aswell. When the scanner motor fails it tends to take out the formatter. Have had to do this loads of times

Ouch! That will be difficult to explain to the customer. To appease the customer I'd give the formatter at cost, and throw in the labor. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Just so ya know, you don't want a used formatter. This series had a huge issue with formatter boards. The chances of you getting a bad board are very high. =^..^=

update the firmware to the latest level also. If the machine is less than a year old HP should cover this with a warranty.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

$300. Less if you have an account.

Don't do it man. Labor sure. Profit maybe. But not the part cost.

Only if you had inadvertently caused it, which you didn't. =^..^=

Generally what happens is the scanner motor fails causing the formatter to go. What we found in the early days of working on these is we would replace the scanner then have to replace the formatter as well. We tend just to fit both now when we have scanner failures. There is a very and I mean very slight chance that if you leave the new scanner on and update the firmware it might work( the firmware is updated on a regular basis available from HP.COM). If you replace the formatter the machine meter reading and serial number will no longer be there. There are prn files that you can re-input these with if HP will give them to you. These machines are a pile of cack and more hassle than they are worth. It may be cheaper in the long run to buy a replacement and rob the parts you need,or if you have one thats in warranty you can claim the formatter from that..
