Hi, i have the machine listed above and the issue im having is with my incoming faxes. Every time I receive a fax, every single time, the image that i receive is always getting cut off. It could be from half of the page down getting cut off, to only printing out a quarter of the page. Any help or ideas of what the problem could be? All copies and internal reports print out just fine. I have the machine connected to a ext. phone for answering machine purposes only, could that be the problem? THanks in advance.

Sounds like a classic example of line-drop.
A received fax that stops at random points is usually line drop out. First thing to do is check the machine operation on a different/known good phone line.
Here in Australia, we have a line test facility. A fax can be sent to a number and it is sent back with a report describing transmission levels, noise, filtering, overall condition of machine etc etc. This info is then used to change settings to get better results if needed.
A quick check on the HP website also shows many firmware and system updates for this model. As always, firmware updates should be done ASAP. -
thanks for the reply wazza, I will check out those updates updates and I will try and test it out on another line. I might of forgot to mention, we tested that line with a brother fax machine and the prints came out just fine while using that machine. Will try hp tech support and get back at you.Comment

Well, if another device works OK on the same line, then it could be a LIU board problem or transmission level setting.Comment

Those little Brothers have very loose line conditions settings. They will continue to receive long after most machines have errored out.
Take a look at the Activity Report. What is your average transmission time per page, and reception time per page. 10 to 25 seconds is normal. 25 sec to 1 minute is long. Any transmissions exceeding 1 minute per page indicate a serious line conditions problem. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Oh, OK...... I have had very little to do with Brother machines in the past........didnt know that interesting little fact.
Their status has increased just slightly in my opinion...... still..... its a brother!Comment

It just prints the error lines, and somehow doesn't detect the errors. Unfortunately this has come up before. The conversation starts with: "... but my $99 Brother still works just fine ... "
I suppose if you don't care what the receptions look like, the Brother is just what you need.

Well.... there is ECM mode to play with as well. Maybe this HP has ECM mode turned on and is disconnecting due to excessive problems, but the Brother just kicks along nicely like Dave has said.Comment

Error Correction Mode - a setting in the machine to detect & correct line errors/problems. Helps ignore line noise or scrambled data so the fax receives OK.
Line Interface Unit - The board the phone line plugs into. Basically a modem.Comment

okay thanks wazza, I do remember from when I went to the service call their fax speed was at slow. but i dont remember if the error correction mode was on or off! how aboutthe automatic reduction? will that help if i have it on off? thanks for the help guys.Comment

I dont think automatic reduction mode will help you, or change the symptoms here. That only helps fit the whole document on a single page if one end is sending a slightly bigger paper size or the original slips through the feeder a bit too much causing it to read as a bigger piece of paper than it really is.
I've been thinking about this one, and you really should check the fax menu of that machine and change the ECM setting. I have no idea how to change a HP fax transmission level, so I'm not going there, but in all reality you shouldnt need to unless their phone line is totally shizznit.Comment
-
Haha, their line and mashine is probably took a shizznit!! LOL. thanks for the advice im heading up there in a few and will try the settings out. will post the results.Comment

So I went up to the machine today and I tried to set the ECM to off and the fax speed to slow, I also turned off the auto reduction and turned it on, but still I get the same problem. I will test the machine back at the shop that way I can test it in different lines and different settings. I will give hp support a call, even if I'm on hold for an hour, and get this straightned out. Will post results when I get time to call.Comment
