    HP4600 Jams at fuser

I'm a rep on a support desk for field techs. Twice today I encountered problems of paper jamming and wrapping around the fuser. In both cases the page had a high volume of color. One was a photo image.

Both printers have HP toner cartriges and the fuser had been replaced. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Is the paper within HP specification for this printer? I've see this happen with paper that was out of spec.

I had a CLJ 5500 that was installed in an enviorment where it was sub-zero. No, it was not in the artic, but the employees decided that they liked to see their breath when they talked. Full color prints would accordian in that Fuser, and leave quite a mess. May have been a couple of wraps also. We replaced Fuser after Fuser due to the damage. Noticed that there was quite a bit of condensation in the Delivery Guide and the walls of the Fuser after a full color print. Told the customer to move the machine, or turn down the air. We took it back to our shop and it ran like a champ on full color prints. These older CLJ 4600/5500 do not have much in the way of Fuser Temp or enviorment control. I believe that has been corrected in later models. Let us know what you find.

Well, A sub-zero environment is certainly out of spec for the printer.

we had trouble with jamming when remanufacturing this fuser. I dont know if this is the same problem, but make sure there's no pieces of plastic or debris under the fuser. exit rollers turned by different gears than the roller gears. If there is debris under the fuser the fuser doesn't get seated properly and the gears on the left don't engage properly. Paper goes in the fuser but doesnt come out. you can tell if the exit roller doesnt turn when printer starts to feed paper.

Is the machine duplexing when it jams? If the paper is wrapping around the fuser roller it has to be getting up under the guide that takes it out of the printer. Either this guide is not seating properly or the paper has so much moisture that the curl that takes place when it hits the heat is so bad that it forces it's way under it. Are the fusers aftermarket or OEM? Are they rebuilt in the field by techs? If you suspect the problem is the paper have your techs carry some dry paper so they can show the customer the differance.
