    HP CLJ M6040

Having a jamming issue with the above printer. Paper is jamming in the fuser area, corner of the page gets stuck on the fuser roller and starts to wrap around. This only happens with heavy toner printers. Text prints, single picture in the in the middle of the page, etc print fine. If its a larger picture or multiples that span the full page it jams everytime.

I have tried the alternate fuser settings, new ream of paper, cleaning pages, changed print mode to light, reduced paper curl, etc. All with no luck. If I use a heavier paper though it will print fine. Device only has 57k on engine cycles and 20k on color.

Next step would be replacing the fuser but would think it still would have some life left in it. Is there anything else we can try?

I think your right with having to change the fuser. Remember the life expectancy on these parts are with a 4% area of coverage, so if they print a lot of pics and full page, it will decrease the life cycle dramatically.

Uh, your set for heavy paper mostly? snap down the levers in the fuser.

          try this setting
When printing on lightweight paper or on jobs with heavy toner
coverage, paper is wrapping on the fuser causing Fuser Delay
Jam or Fuser Wrap Jam messages.

          Set the
Light Media optimize mode on the Print Quality menu
          to
          On

This has been an issue with older hp color printers also. Basically the toner coverage is greater than hp spec and new fuser won't have issue until it has some usage on it. The above setting lowers fuser temp. With heavy toner coverage , the toner stays tacky going thru fuser and sticks to the roller. Heavy paper setting raises fuser temp but slows down speed which is why heavy paper works.

          Fuser has 100k life

just a thought, but you might have some success by upgrading the firmware, as well. HP has had firmware upgrades on some of their other printers due to the fusers not being hot enough.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Thanks for the input. I did try the FW upgrade, did it once before trying the heavier paper about a month or two ago. And did it just recently as there was a newer one.

The fuser I am showing is at 36% percent left and they print alot of full page pictures so, looks like its time for a new fuser. Hopefully this solves it.
