    HP Designjet 5000 Error

The customer tells me that ~1/2 way through a print job the machine displays "Accessing Printheads" then starts sweeping back/forth. The print job finishes, and the machine displays "System Error 02cb0952".

I'm finding nothing useful in the manual. Can you point me in the right direction? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I got nothing on this error either, but it sounds like it is doing a calibration when it should not.
Do you use a NIC or is it onboard? Upgrade it's firmware, then the plotters firmware.

The customer called to cancel, saying that it's not doing it now.

A couple hours later my customer service comes over and says he remembers another detail. "Calibration Error 0021" (which indicates a failing printhead).
If the printhead does not resolve it, I'll do a purge. It's been a while, but I've done that before.

      Thanks for the response. =^..^=

This one has come back. The original code disappeared when the print heads and cleaners were changed, and worked OK for a few weeks.

Now it's "0406 reset" for the pink printhead. I was able to clear out the same code for the black printhead by cleaning the contacts, but the pink stubbornly refuses to clear, or clears for only a second then comes back. Three new printheads can't all be bad.

I suspect a hairline crack in the trailing cable. That is #5 on the list from the manual. I already checked #1 thru #4. And #6 (the carriage assy) will be prohibitively expensive.

Am I on the right track with the trailing cable? If not, what else? =^..^=

HP printheads come with the contact ribbon covered with a sticky weird thing (to avoid oxidation) tho to me it usually causes bad contact too!
i always rub it with alcohool to get it out i always always always do it... then use a soft rubber (those to wipe pencil writings) till the contacts are shinny, and use a cloth with alcohool on the contacts in the carriage ass'y.
Wile the machine printed... was there any print failures? had a prob once in the ink feeding, was clogged partially... the printhead would get dry... started failing print and overheated till it burned out.
A broken trailing cable can do the weirdest things... that could be your problem...
If i recall right that machine is a pig when it comes to head cleanings, splatters ink all over... has it by any chance gotten ink crawling up the back of the flats of the carriage making any shorts?
I would start by cleaning printheads, checking on the carriage (re-seating the flat cables of the printheads on the carriage PCB), re-seat training cable... if no success then i'd go for the replacing of the trailing cable...

The trailing cable resolved this problem. It's surprisingly easy to change too. =^..^=
