They are made by the same manufacturer, so the differences would more or less be options or capabilities. Since you have not indicated what you are using it for, how often you will be using it or what you need in a plotter, no one will be able to provide more information than what is shown in the specs.

DesignJet 1055's were workhorses from what I remember. They were based on an older 1050 model that was rock solid. Not familiar with the 800's, think they were a little newer.The glass maybe half full, but less is more...
Printer + Fax + Copier = Jack Of Many Trades,
but Master Of None
Color Copier = Not A Color Printer
InkJet MFP = Not A Fax Machine

Finisher = Deal Closer (salesman, not accessory)

The 1055 is faster and has more options, but some parts are not available from HP so I would stay away from it. The 800 is a very good plotter and they last a long time, parts are readily available from HP. If it was me I would go with the 800Comment

We use the 800 in our print center. They are very dependable and last a long time.Comment
