I just inherited this. Was hoping it would be a simple fix. Power on and printer goes into initialization and never comes out. Is it worth me fixing it. I have a customer who could use it.

Search out the threads on this model about formatter replacement. There are several. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

first check to see if it has an extra stick of ram if so take it out for a test. If it has an jet direct card plugged in, take it out and test again. If all that fails reset the nvram, if that fails, take a heat gun to the board careful not to destroy it, go over the board on one side then let cool then try it again. If you screw up and heat it too much you are done and will need another board. If this fails to work then you will need a formatter board. If you need a manual to help you I think that was posted.Comment

We have perfected the hot air method: We have 4 screws set up upside down with large heads on a toaster oven tray. Remove the black tape from the board. Heat the oven to 400 degrees.
When ready place the board in the oven and time 4:00 minutes. Then unplug the toaster oven and open the front door DO NOT TOUCH the board until the oven is back down around room temp.
Do not let the board rest in the pan, prop it up on the corners with something heat safe. Do not touch board when hot. A number of connectors fell off the first time we didn't head this advise.
It ain't working now so you have nothing to lose.

wow nice. yeah if you touch the board while hot stuff could fall out. I didn't let mine cool as I did one side then the other then parts fell off. Sounds like you might have something there. I did mine on a cement floor using a heat gun one side at a time using my senses to know when to stop. If it didn't work the first time I would do it again longer next time. finally got it down. But not as precise as your method. I will have to try it next time. Thanks for the hint. I hope the person tries your method to have a better chance of it working out.Comment
