    Win95/98/NT Driver for HP New Model in P series

    Hi Everyone,

    i come across a problem that nowaday new printers' driver support minimum OS from WinXP/2k/7/2003..

    Does the latest driver support in Win98/NT OS??

    has anyone try configure new HP Printer with OLD OS?

      The Laser Jet II driver was pretty much a universal driver for basic printing.

          It was about a year ago that I got a whole lot of calls: "Why isn't HP supporting Win95/98/NT?"
          On the print driver page they've got a big disclaimer posted.

          Have you tried using another older HP driver? If you choose another model's driver with similar features it may work. PCL hasn't changed much. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              Any time this question comes up (fortunately, it's VERY rare), I'll point out that Micro$soft doesn't support these OSes anymore, so how can the printer vendors possibly be expected to.

              It takes a lot of time and money to write printer drivers (hence the industry wide move to Universal drivers).It makes no financial sense to develop drivers for obsolete OSes.

                  Hi All, Thanks for your precious advise.

                  Hi BlackCat4866, need to check with you, will the printer output those funny character if we using older driver?

                  i manage to print using old driver and so far working fine, what i just afraid is, if user printing with special font or in special applications, it will print out funny fonts.

                      With the machine probably having a wider range of fonts available than any of those operating systems, I wouldn't worry too much about getting any kinds of funny characters or font issues. I've connected newer machines to NT boxes and never had any issues at all. Remember, when those were new operating systems, dot matrix was still being used for a good deal of printing!

                      You may want to let your customer know that their biggest issue is going to be the wide number of security issues that their old machines are leaving them exposed to if they still have them connected to the internet. Win 95 and 98 were okay operating systems and NT was a very good OS, but all of them are pushing twenty years old at this point.

                          Like he said. As long as you stick with PCL print language your problems should be minimal. =^..^=
