    Hp 4600 Paper Jamming

It grabs multiple sheets out of cassette. Paper feed problem or static. Never worked on one. Thanks, Kurt

If its not the paper (try new paper first), If I remeber correctly, since there is no separation pad for the cassette (although diagram is deceiving, but its for the MP Tray), you have to bend down those metal tabs at the corners of the cassette. Otherwise, I think it's just a Pick-up Assy. replacement. But let me be clear... you mean its pulling multiple sheets at the same time or its just pulling sheet after sheet without stopping? Even still, if it keeps picking until it jams- Pick-Up Assy. Outside of this, it could be a cassette problem. I know that HP likes to call the little felt pad/sticker on the metal plate of the cassette a separation pad, but I have never replaced one of these to solve a problem and be sucessful. I always prayed that I would never have a multi-feed on these!

I agree with canonhptech dude guy. The pick up assembly is also a nightmare. They always break. I have had 2 occasions though where the felt pad actually fixed a feed issue. Not separation, but a feed issue! It was amazing. One was on the hp 4000 manual feed tray and the other was a 4600 tray. Try changing the feed rollers (moon shaped) in the pick up assembly first. They tend to wear on one side which is why they are now 1/4 moons. They don't put sufficient pressure on the paper in the tray (especially when the paper is low) to feed one page at a time. The bending of the corners is new to me and I might try that!

      Lata!

One last suggestion: I've see the clear mylars between the pickup and registration area wear through, and snag the originals at pickup. It looks looks a double feed, only because it takes such a long time to detect the jam that a second page has started feeding. It only comes as a pickup assembly, but I've manufactured my own mylars, which are still in service to date.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Sometimes (don't know with this model) on HP's the foam piece under the 'flapper' on the pickup solenoid gets sticky and the 'flapper' does not return to the 'off' position, therefore a multifeed. I use a piece of sticky felt or a couple of paper sticker pieces cut up to replace it.

I rebuild p/u asm all the time. The things that go bad on them are the 2 p/u rollers and the turn guides which break. agree with assesment that you should change the p/u rollers.

The p/u asm is designed to work in tandem with the tray. There are 3 rollers and 1 sep pad in the tray. Is the multi-feeding occuring when printing from tray 1 or 2? or both?

I dont think the mylar is needed to function properly as i've run some without it. If you take them off make sure to clean the sticky glue off or you'll have other jamming problems.
