Why do these printers constantly calibrate? I know how to bypass it and to do a forced calibration. But then you almost always have to do a cold reset to get the color registration right. Is there an answer to this issue. It happens on several printers. Is it the generic cartridges specifically? I know how OEM is an answer for some problems, however the cost would be ridiculous. Any ideas?

Re: HP 3600N constantly calibrating
Calibration sets color registration. Cartridge drums are all different sizes and so must be aligned to print colors straight. I have seen 3600 and 3800's that never quite get straight, even with OEM's. Part of the problem is the cheap way they made the transfer belts. You can literally twist them in your hands. They get warped in shipping, bushings on them come out of position and due to that problem make noise during calibration. Additionally, the cartridge locks break. Everything is so plastic in that machine. I don't know if I really answered your question or if this qualifies as a rant.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!". -
Re: HP 3600N constantly calibrating
I haven't seen an answer yet. I have tried with no luck. I swapped every board in the machine from a working machine and even the cartridges. I did not swap the laser assy though. I had thoughts that it might have had something to do with it. If the patches don't get laid down on the belt or read from the belt I cant see how it can calibrate correctly. If you can find the sensor that reads the belt patches, oh wait I think they are on the ETB. Which is a part I tried as well. So I am also suspecting faulty wiring, maybe a bad connection at the connectors. Might have to ohm them out for a non connection. I suppose if a person new what pin on what connector he could monitor the signal to see if there was one. I just gave up on the thing as I have other things to do. Maybe you could take over from here.Comment
