[CQ] HP 4730 Anyone know how the magenta cartridge would suddenly develop a "stripe"?

The users swear they haven't dropped/touched it, and the thing just started "leaking" the toner. It's building up in the catcher strip under the drum, and has created a long streak on the image transfer belt.

I have a spare, but I don't want to use it until I have an idea of what might have caused this.

    Change it.
This is most likely a cartridge defect, or paper debris.
Magenta cartridges in HP color seem to have the highest defect rate of the 4 cartrdiges.

Thanks for the scoop on magenta being especially problematic. I'll replace the cartridge.

Ditto on the magenta. It always seems to be the one across all models of HP's
