HP Design Jet 4500 24:10 turns into power won't stay on.

It started with the 24:10. The book said to run the broken bag detect program and I did.
    I got more error codes. 13.2:10, 1.2:10, 1.0:10 & 26.2:10.
I reseated connectors on the Gamut bd and ran the test again. Same result.
I powered it down and then on and that's when the power would not stay on.
I checked the fusers on the mech bd. The seemed ok.
The lights on the mech bd that are off are the 24Vs and Vpower 2.
The book only sez replace the power supply. Can some one shed some more
    light on this problem please?

Also I did look at the ink station and found yellow ink in the air lines to all inks
except the magenta. I removed the lines and flushed. There was a slight
amount of ink around the base of the yellow ink cartridge receptical, but
not so much that it could be seen from just openning the front access door.

    Thanks

Did you replace that yellow cartridge before you ran the broken bag recovery, and if you remove all the cartridges will the machine stay on? I would remove the ISS board and make sure that NO ink is in that little pressure switch. If it is wet replace the board.
Make sure there is no ink at all in the air pres. lines.
Switch on the machine with no cartridges in it at all. It should remain on, replace each cart. and wait for the machine to indicate that it is installed, (if you haven't replaced that yellow cartridge, do it now. Do not reinsert that bad cartridge.)
If the machine will accept all the carts, rerun the broken bag recovery, you may also have to reset the EPROM.
If the plotter will not boot with the cart's removed you probably will have no choice left but to replace parts as per the manual.

I will keep an eye on this to see if I can help.

        Thanks Oldfart,
That looks like good advice, I will apply it to this problem next week.
That is kinda along the line I was think. On my 2nd visit I cleaned out the ink lines
and it would still not stay on. A week later I powered it up and it stayed on. I shut it
down to take the back cover off, when I tried to power it up, it would not stay on.
I did notice yellow ink in the air line again.
My thought was to drain the ink, install a new cartridge and power it on.
If it stays on I will run some calibration programs.
But I think I like your idea better.
I will check it out and let you know.

        Thanks

Re: HP Design Jet 4500 24:10 turns into power won't stay on.

          Oldfart,
I am still waiting for the customer to get the ink cartridge. He is using the warranty.
Meanwhile, I drained the ink from the yellow line again, and cleaned out the gunk
          from the ink.
I can not tell if the switch is wet, but because with all the inks out, when I power
it up it gives the 24:10 code, I'm thinking it is wet.
It stays on in service mode and when I run the broken bag program I get a
message to check these codes. All inks are out of machine. So I expected
          to some codes.

          1.0:10-problem with gamut pci pca
1.2:10-ISS pca faulty-humidity sensor out of scale or NVM back up fail
          13.0:10-Problem starting Acumen supplies
          26.0:10-order of ink supplies incorrect.

It also gave me the message "No ink short detected".

After reading this I am thinking that I may have to change the ISS board
to get that sensor. Once the ink arrives.

          Just an update

Re: HP Design Jet 4500 24:10 turns into power won't stay on.

            oldfart,
The ink came in and I am on site now. I removed the tube from the pressure sw on the ISS bd and using one drop of alcohol and
my can of air I was able to give it a little squirt to help remove any mositure. Put it back together and installed the new yellow ink.
The codes changed from 26.0:10 to 26.1:10 and 13.0:10 to 13.1:10. If I am reading this right It is pointing at the magenta cartridge.
So I changed the magenta ink and finished the test. Now I have magenta ink in the air line from a new cartridge.
They may have bought these two colors at the same time. But what are the chances that there would be two different color
cartridges with the same problem? You have more time than I on these machines, have you seen this before?

Anyway I cleaned the ink out of the magenta line and looked up the ISS bd in the parts manual. Looks spendy, know where
I might get just the board?

With all the inks out it does stay on but displays the 24:10 code and gives the message to power down the machine.

Have any tech letters on this machine?

            Thanks

            DR

Wow! sounds like a killer. I know the chances are slim that both of those cart's could be bad but on the other hand ink can't get into that air space unless the bag inside is broken. The ink cartridge is the least expensive next step. I have not tried to clean out that pressure switch on that ISS board but that sounds a bit dubious as well. If it were me I would replace the ISS board and the Magenta cartridge.

                oldfart,
That is what I was thinking. Both of these cartridges were close the their expiration
                date on the cartridge.
The customer does have the old magenta cartridge I will try that once before
                informing the customer.
The parts book shows the board on the assembly. I would like to replace just
                the board.

Does anyone know a good parts dealer for these things.

                  oldfart,
I have not been able to find the ISS bd. The book does not show or I
have not found a picture or number for the board.
I did get some numbers off the board and my suppliers say
they do not have that number in there system.

                  Here are the numbers:

on the board------Q1271-20221 This number is etched on the board

on the sticker-----Q1271-60211 This number is on a sticker attached to the board.

More info from the sticker------- IPM 4705 4794A Rev A FF & under that is A-4312-32

on the assembly the board is mounted on is this number Q1273-60145.

A friend said I should flush all the lines and replace all the printheads. His thinking, eventually
it will need new print heads and inks anyway. And if it does not work, then we know it is
                  a board problem.

But my thought is, it was working
before the yellow ink was replaced, there was yellow ink in the lines, (flushed it out), then installed new
yellow and the magenta now the magenta ink is in the line, but only the magenta line. Not all the lines.
Flushing the pressure switch did not seem to help.

oldfart, what do you think? And where can I get this board?

                  Thanks

                    Thank you oldfart,
You have made my day with the sources for parts on these machines.
The name of the source is computercareonline.com.
They are checking for the parts I need and will get back to me.

I may be able to salvage this after all.
