Questions about my new HP Color LaserJet CM3530

I realize I made many threads about my new CM3530 and still have a few questions and will keep general questions about it in this thread rather than making new ones each time.

Since I bought this machine used it did come with several add-ons that I'd like to know more about. Firstly it came with the fax add on which is self explanatory. However it also has an HP JetDirect print server added. This machine already has built in network capabilities, so what exactly does this JetDirect server card add? I'm currently using it by USB only but would like to know what capabilities this adds in case I might ever want to use it. If it's of no use to me then I'll sell it on eBay as I see it sells for well over $200. However, if I do sell it where can I get the cover to cover the hole where it's installed?

Secondly, it came with a 74 GB hard drive which I didn't see listed in the specs of the machine so I guess this is also an add-on? If so, is this hard drive required for the job storage option or can jobs be stored in the memory of the machine?

Finally, are there any common problems with the CM3530 or is it a well built and reliable machine?

This is my first copier with such advanced features so all this is new to me.

    Thanks

Re: Questions about my new HP Color LaserJet CM3530

Another quick question just out of curiosity:

I noticed the cartridges in this printer are "upside down" compared to the Canon machine I had, meaning the drums are facing upward instead of downward. Firstly, how does it get the toner to go against gravity to the drums that are above the toner bins? Does it use some sort of mixing brush in the cartridge to fling the toner onto the drum? If so does this mean no more cartridge shaking required when it's nearly empty?

Since I use compatible cartridges, I once got them from a different company than usual and those had started to leak toner at the edges, leaving colored trails along both long edges of the sheets. This "upside down" design of the HP ensures that no such leaks can affect print quality, and might not even be able to leak at all.

There are little angry birds in the toner cartridge that throw the toner particles against the drum...

Man, you really have no idea!

In case you hadn't noticed I'm not a tech, I'm just a business owner that is using this machine for my business and just want to understand more about it.

Yet your title says "Service Manager", and as I recall, it used to say "Senior Tech".

You may have a new machine, but you're still aab1.

Given your track record, please don't be surprised if you find respect hard to come by on this site.

NSS.............You should've read the rules, this is a tech site for technicians to exchange information, not for some bozo to come here and ask a lot of stupid questions so he doesn't have to pay for service !

You want to know more about printers? Ever heard of Google? Jeez, what a putz you are.

Why would I pay for service when my machine has nothing wrong? I just wanted to know what that JetDirect upgrade module does and where to get the cover plate to close the hole that would be left by removing it.

Don't forget the way you reply did cause you to lose a sale as I was just about to order a manual from you the other day but ended up buying it elsewhere.

BTW all you do on here is spam it with your website, and you can't even be bothered to spam to the actual page for the manual people are asking for, you just spam your main website.

All these questions about the various options and software for this machine can be found in the user manuals, on the HP-website, or at the guy who sold you the machine. If I google on HP Jetdirect Server, I get 2,180,000 results! So be a bit more creative before you post this enduser questions.

It's not spam, they are informative posts. My advertising $$$ and donations keeps this site running. I'm not losing anything by you not purchasing a manual, there's always the next guy / gal. In fact someone purchased the CM3035 manual 2 days ago, I know it wasn't you. The reason I don't give folks a direct link is because I want them to see the entire site. The search function can be used to locate anything specific.

                    You're still a putz.

My question about the JetDirect server is where can I find the plate to block the hole left from removing it as I want to sell it. Is there a model number for this plate? Is it even available for purchase? I realize most people upgrade their machines and not downgrade them so few people must need this plate.

I could order more than a full set of cartridges for the price of the useless-to-me printer server, but there's no way I'm selling it if I can't get a plate to protect the hole that would be left behind.

Another quick question: On my Canon when I sent a print job while it was in sleep mode, it took 5 minutes if not more before it started printing. With this HP machine, even if it's been in the deepest sleep (sleep 2) for hours, if I send a print job it starts printing in a matter of seconds.

Both the specs of the HP and the Canon say first page out in a few seconds so I expected it to be a lie with the HP too, so why is it true for HP and a complete lie for Canon? Does the HP keep itself slightly preheated even in sleep 2, or is it just able to preheat from cold within seconds? I was almost thinking of getting a cheap inkjet for when I don't want to wait over 5 minutes for a page to print, but since this HP really does first page out within seconds there's no need for an inkjet.

On the other hand, whenever this HP wakes up, it goes through an "Initializing scanner..." process that takes nearly a minute before the scanner can be used, why does the scanner need to be initialized each time it comes out of sleep? It's my first all in one that behaves this way and it seems like a waste of time if none of my other machines had to do that (though older non-LED scanners did have to warm up the lamp).

The jet direct is part of the formatter board and cannot be removed, so don't try.
When I install a new printer for a customer I stated the following.
Fined and read the user manual (RTFM) This will save you alot of time and money.

Then if you need to know buy the manual from Paul.

This will help you ask better questions of the techs at this site.
