Having a problem with this machine. History was showing 13.1 and 13. 2 jams. When i got the call I was thinking feed tires. Test run machine and it is jamming out of tray 2. No paper is jammed. Replace all three feed tires. No change. I will replace feed assembly. No change. Hmm! May be I didn't get sensor flag on feed assembly put on right... No change. Replace pick up assembly and solnoind. No change. This problem doesn't happen every copy. Do test print of 50 happens at first copy or 7 th copy or the most it went to was 25 before jamming. Pulled out parts shot gun and tried different paper tray, toner, and dc controller. I am out shells and thinking I missed something easy...thanks for reading and providing me with some new ammo! Tray 1 works just fine. They have been using it for couple of days..

The fuser film or fuser latch can cause 13.02.00 codes. Where are you finding the jams? And are any of them torn, wrinkled, Z-folded, skewed, etc? =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Hp 4200 13.1
There is no paper jammed. Open and close top cover and it will print few more pages and jam. The machine seems like it slows down right before it jams.Last edited by otuvak; 05-12-2012, 03:12 PM.Comment

Re: Hp 4200 13.1
Another thing that can cause 13.01.00 jams is if the foam noise damping disk on the pickup solenoid has become sticky, holding the solenoid on too long, feeding a second page in with the first.
For a while I was just removing those foam dampers and letting it click, but then I discovered that the metal plate will magnetize, again staying on too long, with the same result.
So when I find one of those problematic foam disks I'll remove it, clean off all the adhesive and position a small disk of rubber (scrap bicycle inner tube) with superglue. A 6mm disk (like you can make with a single hole paper punch) works nicely.

Re: Hp 4200 13.1
Thanks for reading on a sat morning! If we are talking about same solnoid(one attached to pick-up drive assembly) I have replaced that one and pick up drive assembly with no change. The only thing I can really notice is the machine seems to slow down right before it jams.Comment

Re: Hp 4200 13.1
A. Are there any 60.x errors in the event log?
1. If there are, check the tray to see if it is type 1 or type 2 (should be 3 little ribs on the right side of the tray for type 2). If this is your problem, jam error will occur but usually when tray is nearly full or overfilled. Paper gets pulled to a point but then backslides into the tray again. Watch the paper movement from the rear of the machine with a flashlight.
2. The lift motor may be going bad.
B. Did you take off the Tray 1 p/u asm and check the following?:
1. Paper feed asm flag and spring to make sure they are installed properly and haven't been knocked out of position.
2. The back side of the tray 1 p/u asm (bypass tray) sometimes gets label adhesive which can slow down paper movement.
3. The rollers on the paper feed asm are bald and the asm needs to be replaced.
4. The tray 2 pick-up asm area has some failures
-spring under the pick-arm has gone sideways
-bushing has been damaged (pick-up drive)
-gear damaged (not part of pick-up drive, but under it)
5. The power supply board is bad (sensor for p/u asm is soldered into it)
6. Bad DC controller.
Observation is your greatest tool. Watch the paper movement from the rear of the tray. Rule things out one at a time.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment

Re: Hp 4200 13.1
Agree with this for sure; "Watch the paper movement from the rear of the tray."
I have found the swivel assembly located on the shaft and pre-feed / feed mechanism is gunked up. When it changes direction it doesnt engage gear. Clean with alcohol. Also the little gear may not me clipped on and causes the problem too.

Re: Hp 4200 13.1
Thanks for the responses! Found it to be the spring in pick up arm assembly. When paper was feeding it was bouncing and sticking in the up position and not pulling paper out of the tray! I can put the shotgun away now. Thanks again everyone.Comment
