    Help, 4700 killing me

It started as a jam issue. I found a guide in the tray and removed the feed assembly and reinstalled it. It still jammed out of the tray, looking like something was hitting the paper. Paper never leaves the tray. I open the bypass and it feeds. I left it working and left. I return next day to troubleshoot. They have a second 4700 that has not been used in a while, so I pull the feed assembly and put in my problem machine. It jams. Each page weather from the #2 tray or bypass gets to just above the media sensor, just coming in contact with the belt enough to leave a trace of toner on the edge of the page. I put the old feed assembly back in and now it jams from the bypass in the exact same spot. I took a shot and ordered another feed assembly. Went back today and installed the new one and it does the same thing, tray or bypass stops just a mil or 2 above the media sensor. At this point I have to assume it is the electronics. I took my new feed and put it in the other printer to check it before I started pulling the boards out of it. I got the same result. Tried 2 of the 3 assemblies and it stops at that same point every time. Machine will not pull to do a paper path test. I swapped the transfer belts and the yellow cartridges. So now I am stumped. What are the odds of the same electronic problem on two different machines? Any ideas?

Also the belt and the cartridges are turning.

    What code?: 13.xx.xx

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the offer, Paul. I got one and it was not much help, nor was my HP tech support.

13.20.00 is a fuser jam possibly a false jam due to an intermittent exit sensor.

I've got a bunch of different database entries on different color HP printers. This includes toner buildup on the fuser inlet guides, broken fuser bushings, uneven fuser pressure, damaged exit flag, intermittent exit sensor, ... fuser fuser fuser. Does that help? =^..^=

Another thing is the gap at the reg sensor. If the guide gets bowed up it the paper will not hit it or throw the timing off. The flag would wear down and cause this too but sounds like you replaced the feed assy.

CAUTION Do not replace the paper feed assembly without resetting the value for the media
sensor. This value is on the sticker located on the new paper feed assembly.

Use the following steps to reset the media sensor value from the control panel.
                1. Press Menu to enter the MENUS.
                2. Press to highlight SERVICE.
                3. Press to select SERVICE.
                4. Enter the service code.
                5. Press to highlight MEDIA SENSOR VALUE.
                6. Press to select MEDIA SENSOR VALUE.
                7. Enter the new media sensor value.
                8. Press to select the new value entered.

Thanks for that tip. I checked and my new assembly does not have a value on it. I will have to call LPT and find out. I wonder if unpluging them and swapping them threw off the values on both machines.

After looking into it, i found out that only oem feed assemblies have that stickers. A lot of the refurbs came from printers that they could not get the settings from. The ones installed in the printer from the factory did not have the sticker because the settings had already been set. Also if the settings were off, I should get media errors. I had ordered a DC controller already this morning and I will see what that does.

DC controller fixed it. I confused myself by over thinking the problem as to why 2 printers in the same room had the same problem. Just dumb luck I guess, keeps me on my toes. Now I feel dumb for asking a simple question I should have known the answer to.

No such thing as a dumb question (well maybe from some).
I have a flat spot on my forehead from head.
At least no one asked you the polarity of the fuse.
