Perhaps poorly re-programmed chips on re-filled cartridges? I've never gotten a bad chip on an OEM, but that's what it sounds like. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks David. That is something to consider when I speak with Company contracting me to service their cusomers' machines and they supply the cartridges which are remans. FrankComment

It is the chip on the cartridge 99% for sure unless the printer has a rare malfunction of reading the chip properly. Only way to know for sure is installing an oem cart to see if problem never comes back. Chips from a few of the common aftermarket suppliers such as Static Control or Future Graphics are very reliable. Ive used thousands of them without issue in my previous career. Some chips are dedicated for specific cartridge models and some are universal. Universal chips are normally in two versions between printer models as standard yield and high yield. There are many HP models that use the same physical size/shape chip as an HP 4300 chip so it could be possible someone put the wrong chip on it.

Is the contractor a remanufacturer or do they outsource their product? Reason i ask is because most good remanufacturers of laser cartridges would know better than to contract a third party repair tech before verifying an issue like this.

Re: LJ 4300Tn "change cartridge" message thought customer changed twice in last 2 we
I don't know if they reman the cartridges themselves. They are in another state and cannot provide the service themselves so they subcontract. I was surprised that the customer had thrown away the cartridges as I would have instructed them to hold onto them for the serviceman or have them returned.
I was also at customer's office for a LJ P4515 with spots /splotches on oneside. This turned out to be toner dropping from right side of drum because of faulty cleaning by blade. After swapping all was well. It was a cartridge that had been changed very recently so there are clearly some reman issues. I will be speaking to them to make sure they understand that there is a reman problem. FrankComment
