    HP 4200 - Tray#2 Jammed

Problem: Tray#2 jamming only when there are 4 or 5 sheets left in the tray.

Other Symptoms: Paper end sensor detects when there is no paper in tray 2. I can run the machine flawlessly when fill the tray to half way or max. I ran it through tray#1 fine. So I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with relay or registration section.

So far, I have replaced the entire paper tray #2 and still no help.

    Any suggestions would greatly appreciated.

    Jam code? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

the feed solenoid could be sticking. there is also a paper sensor right behind the mp tray. part number in the diagram is 16. (maybe hard to see)

I will try the solenoid tomorrow. But I just want to confirm about the solenoid for tray #2.

here's the below site depict it.

Are you talking about the sensor on image #7 of the parts catalog on the above website?

part number 17 for solenoid and yes on the sensor. usually the flag / spring that trips the sensor is at fault.

+1 on chasing this sensor functionality. If it hangs up it doesnt trip at the right time.

Remove right cover and 1 screw to get to tray 2 solenoid.
Replace solenoid damper pad with suitable pad.
Note that there is VERY LITTLE room for a thick pad here.
If pad is too thick, solenoid lever will not clear cam when energized.

Also, I clean rollers behind tray 1 assembly with rubber cleaner, and clean paper pass sensor here too.

You have to also consider that tray 1 runs slower than tray 2.
If paper is slipping in the fuser, it will cause timing issues.

I have seen reman fusers do this so much that I will only use OEM HP.
