    Re-enter Serial Number

Does anybody know how to re-enter the serial number on a HP Laserjet 4100? I just replaced the formatter board, and everything works now, but I'd like to see the actual serial number on the config report instead of: XXXXXXXXXXX

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks JR, I forgot all about that one. =^..^=

          Re: Re-enter Serial Number

On the HP 4100, you just enter service mode to enter it. No need to get complicated. If the formatter does not hold the number (meaning when you cycle power it goes back to X's) you have a defective formatter and need to get another. Bad formatters are common on these machines.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Thanks, now I've got two ways to do it. This customer plays musical chairs with a group of twenty LJ4100 printers. I may not see this machine for another year, and noone can tell me where a particular printer went.

Thankfully, this doesn't harm the machine's functionality. =^..^=

I had a little problem at first. It kept going to: "SELECT LANGUAGE". It turned out that the Cancel Job key was packed with dirt. Once into SERVICE MODE, then SERVICE MENU, it went flawlessly. Even re-entered the count and the maintenance count.

I had three of these 4100's lined up. Of the three, this is the one with a (mostly) functional panel. Thanks prntrfxr. =^..^=
