    HP lj 9050 49.2F95

This printer runs about 100k a month, has no other accessory only tray 4, using only tray 4 for printing. Lately it start to give the customer error 49.2F95, manual says engine control board, my excellent tech support says power supply, what is your take on it?
    Thanks.

    1. When you troubleshoot always remove/disconnect any optional feeder/equipment. Test. Does the problem occur again? If so, go to #2.

    2. Try updating/installing new firmware. See if the problem goes away. Most 49 errors are communication related. Try installing latest drivers (or get their IT dept to do it). If it is on the network, there might be a network connection issue. Test unit.

    3. Reinstall the feeder. Does the problem return again? If so, replace the feeder.

I'm not the only one who thinks the above 3 steps are the solution. This came from HP's website:

"This specific 49 error code indicates a firmware mismatch between the print engine and a paper handling device (input or output). The error may occur because of a loss of power during the RFU process or because the firmware on the controller for the paper handling device is corrupted.

    SOLUTION:
Resend the RFU file, making sure power is not interrupted during the process.

If the 49.2169 (post heading had 49.2f95) error continues, remove the output device (stacker, stapler/stacker, multi-bin mailbox, multifunction finisher) and power on the printer.

If the error clears with the output device detached, replace the controller for the output device.

If the error continues with the output device detached, replace the controller on the input device (tray 4).

NOTE: This is a temporary workaround until issue is resolved in firmware"
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Each time I've come across 49.xxxx codes it's turned out to be corrupt print data arriving at the printer. Either a corrupt document, a corrupt application, or a corrupt print driver. The simplest test is to connect your laptop directly via crossover, and print from various applications. No 49.xxxx codes? hmmmm ... =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
