    T1100 Wide Format cutter problem

Just replaced the carriage belt in a T1100, and now the cutter is not working correctly. It does not cut cleanly, it "pushes" up against the paper, and buckles it instead of cutting through it. I've tried a new cutter assy, same problem. I've tried different widths of paper, no luck. Opened a new roll, nothing. I've check and re-checked that the cutter is installed correctly. It is. There's really only one way for it to be installed, and according to the diagram in the parts box, it IS installed correctly. Seems like the paper is not being held down so the cutter can cut. Any ideas??? Thanks..... Jeff M.

Can't really remember if that one works like a 5500. If it does, it hits a lever to drop it into position. Have you removed the left side cover and move the carriage manually back and forth to see if it actuates correctly.

Tech rule 27... if it worked before you touched it, you did it.

How it works is the cutter sits on the left side, it has a spring-loaded lever sticking up from the assy. The carriage has a corresponding stud under the carraige. It goes to the left side, picks up the cutter and drags it across the machine. Nothing "drops into position", from what I can see, it just slides along the bracket. You can do this by hand, and it should cut the paper, but it just "bunches" it. As I said, it looks like there should be something to hold the paper down. There is a small white roller on the cutter assy in front of the cutter wheels, and it looks like this is what should hold the paper down, but it just rolls over the paper.

Yes, I agree with Tech rule 27....... I think I did it, but I can't see why. By the way, there seems to be a lot of lateral play in the carriage. It prints fine, but the front moves up and down about 1/2". Are there any spacers or something similar at the top of the carriage that might be missing or broken? Thanks...... Jeff M.

Sounds identical to 5500, never had cutter issue so not sure. I have a couple I am working on and will take a look when I next see one of them. Best tip I can give you is call Liberty Parts Team and when you get the operator, ask for eddie, he is great. Hope this helps.
