    Can't print a test page to a LaserJet 4100TN

    This printer doesn't have the USB expansion card installed, so I have it attached to my home network. JetDirect card works, IP/subnet/gateway all configured correctly, and I can ping the printer from a PC. I've tried both the PCL6 universal driver and the generic 4100 driver in Windows 7. The machine boots and goes to a ready state just fine.

    What am I missing here?

      I've had Symantec Antivirus block print jobs and auto-configuration functions before.

      But the simplest way to rule out the network is to connect to your laptop via crossover cable, and print from the laptop.
      I've seen two types of failures on Jetdirect 600/615 cards:
      1) Won't print from the network. Won't print off the configuration page. Won't ping.
      2) Won't print from the network. Prints configuration page, but does not display the IP address or DHCP setting. Does ping successfully.

      You can also turn off the printer, then swap the Jetdirect card to the other EIO port. On a few occasions I've had a bad EIO slot on the print controller. =^..^=

      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

          My card's a 610N, for what it's worth, but I'll try the crossover route tomorrow and let you know.

          To hopefully avoid shelling out for a USB/serial JetDirect card on eBay, have you had any experience with these? Specifically on OSes newer than Windows XP?

              The Jetdirect 610 is typically more reliable than the 600 or 615, and is my preferred replacement. All the same things apply. =^..^=

                  I've used a handful of them with HP4000 /4100/ 4200 on Win 7 and never had an issue.

                          It works! The static IP I had given it must have been taken up by something else on the network. I changed it and all went as expected.
