[Jamming] HP 5550hdn recurring fuser jams

    Hi!

I just recently bought a second hand HP 5550hdn a3 colour laser printer. At first it seemed to work like a charm, but now I get paper jams in the fuser very often. It gets stuck more often when I print documents with lots of color, but sometimes it happens for normal documents too. Some documents work all the time, others never. Once I find a working document I can print an unlimited amount of copies (it seems) without jams, isn't that strange? Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Best Regards,
    Markus

Is the paper wrapping around the upper sleeve? Do you have heavy solid fills at the lead edge?

1.) Switch direction of the paper (If sideways switch to length wise)

    2.) Replaced Fuser Assembly

3.) Problems with Generic Toner, Replace toner with OEM Toner

Those fusers can get flat spots. If you remove it and rotate it by hand and feel flats, change the fuser.

One more thing that you might look at: The exit switch flag can break causing intermittent paper detection. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Additionally: The exit roller is driven by a different motor. If the fuser is not seated properly that gear will not be engaged properly and you will have the paper stop in the middle of the fuser. I get a lot of NPF returns because techs haven't seated the fuser properly. It might not apply, unless you have this problem after reinstallation or replacement of a fuser. The same applies to the 46xx series machines.

Your colour pages must be about 1 cm from the edge of the page that feeds in...if you are using compatible toner. The compatible toner is too thick and sticks to the fuser. Good luck.

Another simple thing to do when printing with lots of coverage is to increase the fuser temperature. either on the printer or in the driver say that is heavy paper.

Just remember drivers ALWAYS override anything set in settings. So, you need to tell your customer (show them) to set paper thickness to heavy in the driver or their plain paper settings will override what you just did.
