HP COLOR LASERJET 4700dn Black printing Issue

have anyone came across this one?

it will print perfect in color,internal test prints(Demo Page,Configuration page and supplies status pages) are perfect.but when it comes to print only black or gray from pdf,Ms Word,Exel it'll come out blank or sometimes few lines.5

have tried few different black cartridges,Transfer Belt,Controller,different drivers,firmware upgrade,different media still same thing,
it's really weird cause a year back had the same problem with CLJ 5550 and had to replace the printer,no fix for that one either.


am i missing something here!

Have you tried the black cartridges you tried in this machine in other machines that work properly, to make sure that they weren't all on the same truck that sat out in the sun and all of them got baked to a crisp?
Sorry, I had this problem earlier that resulted in three black drum units failing in a row because of improper handling. It caused me to beat my head against a wall for longer than I prefer. And your pictures make it look like process black (the mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan toner to approximate black) is OK but only actual black and white is bad. So if you can, check that.

I wondered about that myself. Process black without black toner should look brownish, rather than real black on your full color prints.

I'm not sure if it's the same, but on an HP CLJ4600, there is a developer shift mechanism. With all the cartridges removed, you can see the black plastic rails along the back wall of the printer. I've seen them broken before. If the black toner cartridge does not shift, you won't get complete developing. Also, it's very common to have shift problems with remanufactured toner cartridges. There are two extruded areas on the underside of the cartridge that mate with the shift rails. These extruded areas are easily broken in the handling of re-manufactured cartridges. Of 5 cartridges, I found 5 out of 10 of these posts damaged.

Nevermind on original post, I misread the post. Have you tried the formatter? It's unlikely but I remember having a printer that was printing whacky and it turned out to be the formatter.

installed pcl6 ,,,Try using pcl 5 driver .

Thanks a ton for info guys.

12 consecutive hours working on this beast still no improvement.black cartridge is taken from working machine so we can rule that out,Formattor replaced with new one,

Yes this model does have a Developer lift mechanism like clj4600 and it's ok.Biasing board or Power pack replaced,terminal for charge and ground are checked,

Firmware upgrade was done prior to anything else.(lj4700fw_46.210.2)

PCL 6 and PCL5 tried both with same result.
Laser housing for black tested with another machine.

Tried different media,plain,heavy,card stock, with same result,

office 2007,2003,2010 same result.different version of adobe like 9,10,11 with no luck.

0ut of ideas here,

ta3500sc.pdfIt looks like the the black has no drive. Look at the attched document. Its for an HP Color LJ 3500/3550/3700. Not sure if its the same, but I'm sure you would know.

Thanks for info copiman,but in this model it's different drive mechanism,4 identical drive motors instead of clutches,

It should have been resolved with firmware. What pdf program are they using and what version?

I have tried it with different PDF version with same result.Printer is in my workshop now and i have changed everything like

boards,
wires,
motors,
cartridges,
ITB,
Ethernet card
Laser Assemblies
Complete Drive section with out luck.which makes me think there is no fix for this problem.

1 thing i noticed today was in the calibration process cheating the front door i could see the 4 color patches including sold black on the back side of the ITB,which means there is nothing wrong with this printer.

There are 4 individual drives. Are you saying you replaced all 4?

Hi Fbkhan3,
I have seen problem printing from black cartridges (on HP 4600) no matter how many I have replaced. It turned out to be the colour cartridge next to the black is causing the problem. Try with a different set of colour cartridges.

Thanks prntrfxr, Yes i replaced the complete drive mechanism with all 4 drive motors from a working machine and i didn't work. shtrouble..i tried 3 or 4 different sets of cartridges including color cartridge,(YMC)with no luck. anyway guys really appreciate your input regarding this issue. Regards!
