    4345mfp swing plate not engaging

    We have a client that we recently replaced the dreaded swing plate on. Machine was working great then this week they got a fuser failer 50.3 so we sent them a replacement fuser and then it went into the 13.05 jam. We sent a tech out and he is saying the swing plate gear is turning, but is not engaging the new fuser. The gears all look good as they should being new, but something is stopping the swing plate from engaging the fuser.

    Any idea what pushs the swing plate to engage fuser?

    Thanks

    I believe it's just the spring on the swing plate assembly. If the spring came off, could be the problem.

      With the fuser removed press the swing plate gear and see if it swings back toward you. If it does the swing plate is installed fine and it may just be the connection between the main drive and the toner door. When the toner door is open the swing plate will be disengaged. If you press the swing plate gear away from you and it doesn't come back toward you the spring is missing or the swing plate has not been installed correctly.

            Hi. I've had quite a few non hp (compatible) swing plates that look and work ok until they are screwed in, then just don't swing back. Make sure it was a genuine hp swingplate that was fitted.

              Had some crappy fusers "rebuilt" They dont replace the lower bushings and they are so egg shapped they wont even touch the gear;

                I agree with the post about the lower bushings. I believe faulty bushings are what cause the swing plate issues in the first place. They should have been engineered better to begin with and I don't believe the swing plates would go bad that frequently if they were. Case in point, there have been fuser drive issues with the P4015 and that gear is beefy. The LPR bushings aren't that different, though.

                If bushings get worn, the LPR wobbles. This wobble wears the gear on the swing plate (fuser drive) and the fuser. If you just replace the swing plate you will have noise from the fuser gear and the wobbling will eventually damage the new swing plate. If you replace the fuser and the swing plate is worn, it will wear the fuser gear again. (If it engages the gear without slipping.) If you just replace the black swing plate gear, not the entire swing plate, and the white swing plate gear is worn it will still make noise and cause slipping. All of these things need to be checked by the technician to resolve swing plate issues. Make sure whoever you purchase rebuilt fusers from, that they change the LPR bushings and fuser gear. The OEM swing plates are priced lower than most 3rd party ones, so there is no excuse for a bad swing plate asm.

                The most difficult part of swing plate repair is time involved, stripping screws when you take them out (soft head on the screws and tight location), and installing the new one. If you have to force it to go in, you're doing it wrong.

                  I replaced the swing plate gear by itself with new spacer and metal gear. Much better and waaaaay faster than removing swing plate!!

                    Yes, as I said before you can replace just the gear and the spacer, but what was the condition of the white gear behind it? If it had worn teeth, you will end up replacing it again, regardless if you used the expensive metal gear. ($11 for the OEM swing plate).

                      all the other gears looked fine. Why did someone tag this post of mine and call me a "putz"? Something insulting to someone that I am not aware of or just that time of the month for you?
