[Error Code] HP DesignJet T7100 - Service Code 86.01

    Good evening everybody,

I have an HP Plotter giving me an issue i need a little bit of help troubleshooting...

    History:

I was called in for a paper jam... the paper had jammed, the users removed the jam, printer will not work.

When i go to the machine the paper was not jammed, but loaded into the machine, with "paper jam" on the display and instructions on how to remove said paper jam.

Followed instructions and removed paper but upon restarting the machine, paper jam error persisted.

Unloaded the paper, restarted machine, immediately after the machine initializes... paper jam persisted.

This is when i got my hands on a service manual... i tried the first service Test: Scan Axis Test and was presented with the Error 86.01. Now, when i check the service manual for this test it instructs me to run the Scan Axis Test for more details but that just takes me back to error code 86.01

My first course of action is going to remove, inspect and reset the Carriage.

Any suggestions as to what i should do next? What might be the cause of this problem?

    Thanks heaps.

thanks but i already have a full service manual...

the problem is that i run a test to determine the error code and the error code (in the service manual) tells me to run the same test for more information.... which just gives me said error code.

I have been unable to dig up any further information.

      thoughts?

I'm going to guess you meant service code 86:01, as that makes way more sense to me.
If I'm wrong, please ignore what follows, because it is probably wrong as well.
86:01 means the carriage drive isn't responding as expected, so make sure the carriage isn't binding.
Also, the customer may have only removed most of the jam, so take a look at where the paper goes through guides and rollers to see if they missed a piece.

As far as the false jam goes, GOOD LUCK! I went to set one of those up for a customer. Out of the box it showed a jam, and I could find nothing. I thought maybe a board. i told the customer to call HP since it was new. Later I spoke with the customer and he told me the HP guy spent hours there, with tech support on the phone. They insisted it would be debris, and it was. It was just a nightmare to find. Better him than me.

Two common causes for the 86:01 error on HP plotters:

              1) Lack of lubrication or ink buildup on the carriage rail

              2) Timing belt wear. Rubber dust from the carriage belt packs into the timing pulleys allowing the teeth to jump. Clean pulleys with point dental tool, and replace carriage belt.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: HP DesignJet T7100 - Service Code 86.01

Thanks for the advice with this!

I started stripping apart this machine this morning and discovered little bits of rubber along the bottom of the carriage unit... remnants of teeth from the damaged carriage belt.

Looks like the user perhaps physically pushed the carriage (while clearing the jam??) and chewed up some of the teeth on the belt. Not enough teeth to be out rightly noticeable or affect the drive of the mechanism, but enough to throw the timing out of whack and cause the error code.

I also have an HP 5025 that am re building as well, will be be sure to post progress on both of these machines as i finish them.

                Thanks again,

                  ...
What you're looking at is normal wear and tear on the timing belt when the carriage drive reverses direction at the end of each pass. HP writes a pretty good manual. If you stick to the book you won't have any trouble. =^..^=
