    4345 jams

    I have a problem on laserjet 4345. It feeds ok and jams with paper in the nip of the reversing rollers and the second sheet just exiting the fuser. the manual defines this a late jam at ps110.
    I have checked all motors and sensors all looks ok
    feeding from either tray has the same result

    Any ideas?

      This is just old school diagnosis, back when there was no diagnostic modes.

      In a small machine like a printer there is typically only two or three paper sensors. Since it makes no difference which paper source you use, the only switch left is the exit switch. I'd start there.

      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Diagnostics Mode

          Whoa Blackcat! You shouldn't post if you don't know jack about the model. The 4345 has 11 sensors and operates quite like a copier minus all the stupid feeding rollers and 350 software switches. This machine is nice and is moderately difficult to diagnose sometimes. This problem sounds like it could be the duplex section in the middle part of the main unit. Now, it depends on where ps110 is in this unit but you can test ALL sensors on this model by going into diagnostics in the menus and choosing paper path sensor test. This will bring up a screen that shows a bunch of letters with a 0 or 1 below it. The 0 is open and the 1 closed. Move each sensor to see the screen numbers (values) change. This way you can eliminate a sensor failure. Also check to see if paper is blocking the path... I was bitten by one today I swore there was no scraps of paper in. LOL

                  Watch out for the fuser drive gear on these.The "swing assy" on the early ones are a pain to change.You have to gut the machine.The newer gears have a lip on them.

                      There is an easier way to replace the swing plate assy. than the way HP suggests. The procedure is shown in the PartsNow newsletter posted on their. Go to the PartsNow site and look for the 'Service Today' link. Its from a few months back and I forgot which month. Get em all. LOTS of good service info there.

                          Thanks for the advice. I have to change a swing plate assy next week so will follow this guide although I think the early models dont have a hole in the rear frame to access the gear shaft.The machine I will be working on is 3 years old so I will let you know.

                              Sorry not to reply b4 now,been away. Fuult was poor connection on sensor harness, must never have been connected properly
