Thank you Masked Marvel for that information. The customer has agreed not to spend any more money and this is in limbo right now. however, i have to wonder if it has something to do with my chaging the trnasfer belt unit as this problem did not exist before i changed it. Customer had been using tray 1 regularly before that. Keep on fighting injustice in the office equipment world. Your buddy,Frank

I think I have the solution for this problem. Turn the printer on it's back and check the slot where the optional tray connects. In my case there was a piece of plastic that became loose on one side causing the "Jam in paper tray 2" error. (see attached photos)

This might be stupid, but what type of paper is tray one set up for? Sounds a little bit like it is set up for a type of paper that the print driver doesn't agree with.
Might check the driver for issues, too.
Seems to me there would be some rather specific jam codes in the event log if this was a machine problem.
On the other hand, I might just be a lazy idiot.

Its been awhile since I had this but I remember that it was obvious when I saw it.

The only guide i wasn't sure about was in the back of machine at bottom which swung in and out and was not very stable but i did no see anything obviously wrong as first call on this unit . It appeared that when rear door assembly would be closed it would just go into it's proper position. I think it was rm1-4838 guide asm. but not sure.
This problem would seem either like offline tray 1 as no acknowledgement of paper or attempt to feed from tray 1. Or maybe sensor isengaged before feed starts though trays 2 and 3 work when they are used. I will go back today or tomorrow (when customer has payment for transfer belt replacement) and follow-up. Are you referring to a vertical path guide between tray #1 and registration? =^..^=

Transfer belt unit was badly damaged + machine unusable. Replaced today. Customer has 2 letter size trays(Tray 2 + 3) and uses tray 1 to do legal size. When trying to copy or print from tray 1 machine is somehow using tray 2 and giving jam message. If you want to use tray 2 or 3 separately for letter size then there is no problem.
Only a problem when trying to use tray 1. Could problem with ITB or the replacement of it cause a problem with tray 1. Diagnostic page looks okay. Was going to attach but got message here that file is invalid. Frank/ActionPhotocopy
