just check hp tech site, communication lost message(in five languages on display) usb cable from control panel, must be cable from hp. if not fixed, then formatter, then hdd.

I have an hp color laserjet cm3530fs printer displaying this error on the screen....Communication Lost....After checking on the net some sujest i buy a mini usb cable the one from the control panel to the back but after replacing it the error is still there.Some are saying i must replace formater body but my warry is i might buy formater board and still have the same problem.The formater board was having a hard drive bt it went missing can the hard drive cause this error?
Is there anyone who have came across this error and hw have u solved it

it definitely needs hard drive, if it is like older hp mfps , you can print but copy, scan and fax will not work. you will get varying error messages depending on the model. back in the day if they mfp had hdd failure the error would stop all functions on mfp, we would remove hdd and that would allow the user to print until we could get back with new hdd.

Did the "Communication Lost" error occur after printing, faxing or copying?
(Sorry, can't see your machine and what it is doing, so I can't tell. Lost communications can be very different between those options, and I'd rather not send you after a wrong conclusion.)
